Food is abundant in the Rijksmuseum. The great masters painted tables loaded with fish, poultry, game, pastries, shellfish, fruit and vegetables. But what did all this food taste like?

Take a culinary trip back in time with our collection of canned treats inspired by paintings from the 16th and 17th century. The recipes come from the same time period as the paintings and feature flavours and ingredients that are very uncommon in today’s kitchen.

Fragments of the original paintings are incorporated in the label designs. The label also provides information about both the painting and the recipe.
